Aquaculture experts and officials from governments in the Mekong Region met in Chiang Mai, 10-11 December 2016, to participate in a proposal development workshop for AQUADAPT Phase II; which continues the mission of Phase I, but this time at a regional scale, including: Vietnam, Cambodia, Lao PDR, Myanmar, and Thailand. The event was organized by the Unit for Social and Environmental Research (USER), and held at the Holiday Inn Chiang Mai.
The purpose of this workshop was to discuss and agree on key elements of the Phase II proposal, which would later be submitted to the International Development Research Centre (IDRC), Canada, for their consideration. IDRC was the donor for AQUADAPT Phase I.
The format of the workshop followed that of a facilitated round-table, with key elements of the proposal edited/annotated live as suggestions and criticisms were voiced. There were no lengthy presentations, but short briefings by participants (usually without slides) on views and issues.
Overall, the workshop was a success. The proposal was greatly improved by the collective effort; participants made new connections, and enjoyed their stay in Chiang Mai.
